Company Overview
Global Education Lab brings Cambridge-rooted executive and student programmes to the world — 5,000+ learners, 100+ organizations, 25+ countries. We are now building our US presence, bringing American schools, universities, and corporate leaders into our Cambridge ecosystem.
About the Role
We are looking for a Director of Business Development to establish and grow our US market as our founding US hire, working remotely with East Coast hours.
Experience selling education programmes, executive education, or academic partnerships in the US market.
Familiarity with US buyer landscapes: independent schools, districts, universities, corporate L&D.
Exposure to building a market from zero — pipeline, playbook, and presence.
Comfort selling international/UK-linked programmes to American buyers.
Familiarity with education conference circuits (NAIS, ASU+GSV, SXSW EDU).
Key Responsibilities
You will own US revenue and define how GEL wins in America.
Build the US go-to-market: segment prioritization across independent schools, universities, honors programs, and corporate leadership development.
Sell student cohorts (Cambridge summer immersions), educator delegations, and executive programmes to US institutions.
Develop channel partnerships — educational consultants, school associations, university international offices.
Run the full cycle from outreach through contract, coordinating delivery with the UK/India teams.
Represent GEL at US education conferences and build brand presence.
Report market insights and shape US pricing, positioning, and programme design.
Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate has sold educational experiences to American institutions and can build alone before building a team.
Bachelor's degree; Master's in education or business a plus.
6–10 years in education sales, partnerships, or enrollment growth with US institutions.
Track record closing $50K+ institutional deals or filling premium program cohorts.
Founding-market autonomy: playbook building, self-sourced pipeline, credible solo presence.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience selling study-abroad, summer programs, or international education to US schools/families.
Existing network among independent schools, ed consultants (IECA), or university partners.
Familiarity with Cambridge/Oxbridge brand positioning in the US market.
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary of $90,000–$120,000 with performance bonus (OTE $140,000–$170,000).
Health insurance stipend.
Cambridge programme immersion and founding-hire growth path to US country lead.
