Company Overview
Foodbud's AI analyzes ingredients, detects allergens, computes nutrition, and personalises menus for thousands of diners. Our models turn messy recipe text into structured, safety-grade food intelligence — validated alongside research partners like the Quadram Institute.
About the Role
We are looking for an AI/ML Engineer to build our food intelligence engine, based in Bangalore or remote across India, collaborating with the UK team.
Experience with NLP/LLM pipelines for entity extraction and classification (ingredients, quantities, techniques).
Familiarity with recommendation systems or personalised ranking.
Exposure to structured food/nutrition data (nutrient databases, allergen taxonomies) or similar domain ontologies.
Experience with evaluation rigor for high-stakes classification (allergen detection = safety-critical).
Familiarity with Python ML stack and production model serving.
Key Responsibilities
You will own the models where a false negative isn't a bad UX — it's an allergic reaction.
Build ingredient extraction and normalization pipelines from unstructured menus and recipes.
Develop allergen detection with near-zero false negatives — hidden allergens, cross-contact inference, derivative ingredients (e.g., ghee → dairy).
Compute nutrition estimates mapping recipes to nutrient databases (McCance & Widdowson, USDA) with portion logic.
Build personalised dish ranking from dietary preferences and restrictions.
Design evaluation harnesses with nutritionist-validated gold sets; measure and publish model accuracy.
Serve models efficiently in production with cost and latency discipline.
Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate treats allergen classification like the safety problem it is.
B.Tech/M.Tech in CS, ML, or related field.
3–5 years of ML engineering with production NLP/classification systems.
Strong Python and experience with modern LLM and embedding tooling.
Rigorous, measurement-first engineering culture.
Preferred Qualifications
Food, health, or safety-critical domain experience.
Multilingual NLP exposure (menus come in many languages).
Publications or open-source contributions in NLP.
Compensation & Benefits
Annual salary of ₹15,00,000–₹25,00,000 based on experience, plus early-stage equity.
Health insurance.
Direct collaboration with UK research partners.
